Politician trade return calculator
The politician trade calculator shows what copying a member of Congress would have returned: every stock they disclosed buying, the same dollar amount each, against SPY over the same days. VolaIntel is a politician and insider stock-trade tracker.
Copy a member's disclosed purchases

How the numbers are worked out
For each purchase the member disclosed, the calculator takes the closing price on the start day (the filing date, or the trade date if you choose it; a weekend or holiday rolls to the next trading day) and the latest close, and grows your amount by that ratio. SPY, the S&P 500 ETF, gets the same amount on the same start days. Totals add the purchases up. Members report each trade as a value range, so the calculator uses your amount for every purchase rather than guessing their real sizes.
The math is open: it is one short file, tested, and the same code runs in your browser and in the build. Data as of Oct 30, 2026.

Questions
How does the Congress trade calculator work?
Pick a member of Congress and an amount. The calculator buys that amount of every stock the member disclosed buying, on the day the filing was published (or, if you choose, on the member's own trade date), holds it to the latest close, and compares the result with the same money put into SPY on the same days.
Why does the filing date matter?
A member can report a trade up to 45 days after making it, so nobody outside could copy it before the filing was public. The filing-date result is what a copier could actually have got; the trade-date result shows what the member's own timing gave.
Does the calculator include sales and dividends?
No. It copies purchases only and holds each to the latest close; sales are not used to close positions, and returns are price-only, without dividends.
Where do the prices come from?
Daily closing prices, split-adjusted, from Yahoo Finance's public chart data, through Oct 30, 2026. A trade on a weekend or holiday starts at the next trading day's close.
Which members are in the calculator?
The 18 members with at least three disclosed purchases in VolaIntel's data that have prices for both dates. 0 purchases without a usable price were left out.
Is this investment advice?
No. It is arithmetic on public filings and past prices. Past returns do not predict future returns, and the reported amounts are ranges, so a member's real position sizes are not known.
VolaIntel reports public filings. It is not investment advice. Amounts for congressional trades are the value ranges members report.
