VolaIntel vs Autopilot

Autopilot and VolaIntel both start from the same public filings, Congress trades and 13F fund holdings. What differs is what happens next: Autopilot connects to your brokerage and places the trades for you; VolaIntel shows you the filings and leaves every decision, and every trade, to you.

Below, the two side by side, with Autopilot's facts taken from its own pages and linked. Autopilot is the better fit for some people, and we say which. VolaIntel is a politician and insider stock-trade tracker.

How Autopilot works

Autopilot describes itself on its App Store listing as “Autopilot is automated, smart portfolio investing inside your own brokerage account (Robinhood, Charles Schwab, Public, and more)”. Its marketplace includes “Politician Trackers — follow disclosed trades from members of Congress” and “Hedge Fund Trackers — mirror the 13F filings of top funds”

It places the trades: “Every trade auto-executes in your account, in real time” It does not hold money: “Your money stays in YOUR brokerage — we never hold your funds” Its disclosures say “Advice ... is generated and managed by Autopilot Advisers, LLC ("Autopilot Advisers" ...), which is an investment adviser registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).”

It says: “TRUSTED BY 200,000+ INVESTORS” and “Download Autopilot (free)”. The listing does not state the price of a subscription. Its risk note: “Investing in securities involves significant risk, including the risk of loss of principal. Past performance does not guarantee future results”

How VolaIntel works

VolaIntel is a politician and insider stock-trade tracker: a web and iPhone app from Opie Platforms Inc. that shows the stock trades members of the US Congress disclose under the STOCK Act, corporate insiders on SEC Form 4, large funds on Form 13F and 5% holders on Schedule 13D/13G, plus White House executive orders, with an AI assistant that answers questions from those filings.

Every row links the original filing. Congressional trades show the value range the member reported, and the date it was filed. The filing pages on this site are free to read; the app is VolaIntel Pro at $29.99 a year, and VolaIntel never places trades. See the Congress trading statistics and the trade return calculator.

Where they differ

Copying a member of Congress means buying after the filing, which can be up to 45 days after the trade; in VolaIntel's House data the median gap is 22 days. The trade return calculator shows the difference that makes for each member. Autopilot acts on filings automatically; VolaIntel is for reading them first.

When Autopilot is the better choice

  • You want trades copied into your brokerage automatically, with no manual steps.
  • You want an SEC-registered adviser managing the strategy.
  • You are comfortable with a strategy that buys after each filing is public.

When VolaIntel is the better choice

  • You want to see the filings and decide yourself, with no broker connection.
  • You want insiders, funds and 5% stakes, not only portfolios to copy.
  • You want a fixed $29.99 a year and nothing traded on your behalf.

Its listing offers “Politician Trackers — follow disclosed trades from members of Congress” and says every trade auto-executes in your connected brokerage account. The trades are copied after they are disclosed.

VolaIntel reports public filings. It is not investment advice. Amounts for congressional trades are the value ranges members report.
